The sun has got his hat on. So I made him this smoothie bowl to celebrate.
Only kidding. I made it for myself. WAY too good to give away.
I love a smoothie, particularly for breakfast, as it’s such a quick and easy way to inhale, I mean swallow, lots of goodness to set you up perfectly for a great day.
If I have a bit more time, I love making a smoothie bowl which is slightly too thick to drink.
Don’t even attempt it with a straw, which incidentally, is how I like to drink smoothies normally. But no, for a smoothie bowl, you will need a spoon. You may already have one of them lying around. Hopefully.
As a general rule, you can pretty much bung things into a smoothie and not worry too much about exact quantities. Gung ho is the phrase that springs to mind.
But I have tried to start remembering quantities so that I can share more of these recipes with you. It has meant I have sacrificed a notepad to the God of splodges and splashes. But that’s okay. Having a food stained notebook makes me feel much more like a Chef than I am anyway.
Right, so this smoothie is everyones favourite combo. Well, second maybe only to Posh n’ Becks. Banana and Strawberry. An oldie but such a goodie. And such a great way to start the day.
This smoothie is full of nutrients, natural sugars from the fruit, fibre and antioxidants. You can even bung in some protein powder if you feel inclined which will keep you feeling fuller for longer and is great for rebuilding muscles after a workout. Feel free to play around with the fruit. The frozen banana is excellent for the base, and I always keep a bunch of bananas in my freezer, but everything else can be played with. You can even hung in a handful of greens….very important to eat your greens, and smoothies are a great way of getting them down ya.
So, without further ado, here’s how to make a smoothie bowl to make you smile.
- 1½ cups strawberries, fresh or frozen
- 1 frozen banana
- ½ cup almond milk
- splash of vanilla extract
- small sprinkle of cinnamon
- optional extras:
- 1 cup greens such as spinach, cucumber, celery
- 1 scoop of protein powder
- extra banana
- Simply bung everything into a high speed blender, or food processor and whizz it all together until its smooth, thick and creamy.
- You can adjust the thickness by altering the amount of banana and adding more or less almond milk, so you can drink this smoothie if you prefer!
I don’t have a blender, but I have a Kitchen Whizz Pro which I told you about before, and which I am madly in love with. I admit it’s an investment, but I can assure you, it’s going to change your cooking experience….yes, it’s that good.
