Water water everywhere and…there’s a lot to drink.
Okay so I admit that that might not be quite how it goes in the Ancient Mariner. I’m a little late to the game in making New Year Resolutions seeing as it’s already the 8th January, but I’ve settled on one and I’m determined to keep it. I’m going to drink more water.

In the past (the past being a couple of days ago), I would regularly go for a couple of days without having a glass of water. Yes I drank tea and coffee, but I never reached for a glass of the stuff straight up.
I was constantly hungry and this is because hunger is one of the first signs of dehydration. If you don’t drink enough water, the body will react by telling you to eat anything you can get your paws on in a desperate attempt to get some water. I saw this rather snazzy picture on Pinterest:
Water aids digestion and helps your body absorb less of the fat from the food you eat. And bearing in mind our bodies are made up of about 60% water, it’s pretty important stuff. But drinking it can be so boring. After one sip, I’m bored and getting to the bottom of the glass seems like a challenge set for Hercules. So I’ve started making this Skinnie Minnie Water which means that drinking the right amount of water each day no longer feels like a Herculean effort.
This Skinny Minnie water is flavoured with lovely fresh ingredients which help breathe some life back into the water. There’s no need for sugar laden squashes or juices, this water tastes delicious and uses a concoction of ingredients which not only taste good but also do you good, you know, from the inside out. I now don’t dread drinking water in the way I did and I can already feel it doing me good. It has superpowers – drinking enough water will make your hair shinier, give you younger looking skin and a healthier body. Gulp, gulp, guzzle, guzzle (that’s me drinking more water). It’s the world’s best beauty elixir.
The ingredients are simple, but boy are they effective:
Cucumbers are very low in calories, are high in dietary fibre and act as a diuretic. They help to keep the body alkaline and are basically natures little way of helping you on your way to a flat tummy.
Ginger helps the body absorb nutrients and has a whole host of digestion friendly properties.
Lemon is a natural way of cleansing the body as it helps the body eliminate waste products. Lemons are also very high in pectin fibre which help suppress food cravings.
Water is life, as the old saying goes. It’s really important to keep hydrated so that the body’s fat burning process doesn’t slow down. Drinking water also helps you feel full so that you don’t over eat.
- 8 cups water
- 1 lemon, sliced
- ½ cucumber sliced
- 2 inches ginger, sliced or grated
- handful of fresh mint
- Take a large jug and pour in all ingredients.
- Give it a good mix around and pop in the fridge to infuse overnight for best results. But I often just start drinking it straight away and it still tastes great!
- Drink and feel your body saying 'thank you!'
