A few weeks ago I pootled off to Shakfuyu for some serious feasting and I was blown away by how delicious it was.
If you do one thing this week…head to Shakfuyu.
This is the perfect place to take that foodie friend of yours who always knows the latest places or a great place to take that date you’ve been trying to impress.
It’s a Japanese pop up in an old pizzeria in Soho. The dishes are all perfect for sharing, which is right up my street. Food envy is not a thing here, but you may wish your friend would disappear for a minute or so, so that you can finish all the food. You’ve been warned.
We tried to sample as many of the dishes as possible. For you, of course. I know, I’m so good to you. You’re so welcome.
This sticky miso aubergine with crunchy bits (technical term) was ridiculously, insanely delicious. It made me want to smother miso on anything I could get my hands on. Definitely one for recreating at home…watch this space.
I don’t think the photo does it justice, but the melting soft aubergine covered in such a sticky glaze with crunchy puffed rice was just a killer combination that still has me dribbling
Next up was the mantaiko mac n’ cheese with roe, crumbs and bacon
Man Oh Man. This is a seriously pimped up version of mac and cheese and it’s insane. The mix of roe and bacon is a corker and the crunch from the crumbs is just delish. It’s only 9am but I wish I was eating this right now….
The prawn toast is the dish that’s making waves and it really lives up to expectations.
The perfect mix of crunchy and soft, creamy and just bouncing with flavour
And the beef picanha with kimchee butter. Perfectly cooked beef served with a wonderfully rich and delicious butter sauce. Heaven
Cauliflower in miso orange ponzu dressing is a cracker. I wasn’t that tempted by the description, but it was seriously good and a must order!
It’s delicate and comforting at the same time. A delicious combination
All topped off with matcha green tea ice cream and french toast. Swoon worthy in the extreme
The only bore is that you can’t book, as is the case with so many of these great places. But there is a great bar downstairs with some lethal cocktails to ease the pain of queuing.
Head over there quickly before it get’s too busy! Perhaps I will see you there
